Behind the Craft

Every hand-embroidered piece is a journey of precision, patience, and artistry. Here's what happens between your design and the finished masterpiece.

Stage 01

Design Interpretation

Our senior artisans study your design reference — analyzing stitch types, thread densities, color gradients, and motif placement. A stitch map is created marking which technique covers each area of the fabric.

For complex bridal pieces, this stage alone involves 4-6 hours of planning. The stitch map becomes the blueprint that guides every karigar working on the piece.

Stage 02

Frame Preparation

The fabric is stretched on a wooden adda (embroidery frame), ensuring uniform tension across the entire surface. The design is traced onto the fabric using pounce powder or carbon transfer — creating the exact pattern the artisan will follow.

Different fabrics require different frame tensions. Velvet needs gentle stretching to avoid pile damage, while silk requires firm tension for precise stitch placement.

Stage 03

Material Selection

Threads, wires, beads, and embellishments are selected and prepared. For Zardozi, metallic wires are cut to precise lengths. For Aari work, silk threads are color-matched. For Crystal work, stones are sorted by size and cut.

A single bridal lehenga may use 15-20 different materials — gold Zardozi wire, silver Dabka coils, silk resham threads, sequins, beads, and crystals — each requiring separate preparation.

Stage 04

The Embroidery

Master karigars work 6-8 hours daily on each piece. Heavy Zardozi involves couching metallic wires with tiny stitches. Aari uses a hooked needle from below the fabric. Each technique demands years of muscle memory.

A 1-square-foot section of dense Zardozi takes 15-20 hours. An entire bridal lehenga panel may require 800-1,200 hours of cumulative karigar time across multiple artisans.

Stage 05

Finishing & Cleanup

Excess threads are trimmed. Metallic elements are gently polished. The fabric is removed from the frame and steam-pressed without touching the embroidery. Any loose ends are secured.

The finishing process is critical — improper handling can flatten Zardozi wires or dislodge crystals. Our finishing specialists handle each piece with cotton gloves.

Stage 06

3-Stage Quality Inspection

Stage 1: Stitch density and pattern accuracy check. Stage 2: Material integrity (no loose threads, secure beads). Stage 3: Overall aesthetic — the piece is photographed and compared to the approved design.

Any defect found at any stage means the piece goes back for correction. Our QC pass rate is 100% because we don't ship until it's perfect.

Stage 07

Client Approval & Dispatch

HD photographs and video are shared with the client for final approval. Once approved, the piece is carefully folded with tissue paper, packaged in protective wrapping, and dispatched with full tracking.

For international orders, we use acid-free tissue paper and custom packaging to ensure the embroidery arrives in pristine condition.
